Announcing the Apprentice Trailblazer Initiative

About

The Department of Labor (DOL) has recently launched an exciting new program to expand and promote the Registered Apprenticeship (RA) movement. The Apprentice Trailblazer Initiative was launched on August 16, 2023, to honor the 86th anniversary of the National Apprenticeship Act. The program will create a diverse national network of apprentices and apprenticeship graduates to serve as spokespersons, subject matter experts, and role models.

Trailblazers will share their perspectives, success stories, and experiences to build awareness about how RA can benefit career seekers of all ages. They will brainstorm ideas, provide feedback, and help identify new strategies to strengthen, modernize, diversify, and grow RA. They will participate in activities to mentor other apprentices, such as peer apprenticeship working groups and panel discussions.

In return for performing the important tasks of supporting new apprentices and boosting apprenticeship initiatives, Trailblazers will be afforded valuable professional development and resume-building opportunities. They will receive national recognition from the U.S. Department of Labor. They will exercise skills such as teamwork, leadership, and public speaking as they engage with stakeholders, apprentice peers, and the USDOL. And networking with Apprenticeship Ambassadors and interacting with apprenticeship practitioners will enable them to cultivate mentoring relationships that will help them throughout their careers.

For its first cohort, the program focused on youth apprentices ages 16-24 and recent youth apprenticeship graduates. Youth apprentices, recent graduates, and/or sponsors of youth apprentices and graduates are welcome to apply.

Visit the Apprentice Trailblazer Initiative webpage to find further information, the online application, and a checklist to guide applicants through the process. For answers to specific questions, contact: apprenticetrailblazers@dol.gov.
